The Edo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development has called for collective efforts in raising responsible and purpose-driven boys as the world marks the 2026 International Day of the Boy Child.
In a press statement, the Ministry said every boy carries great potential and must be properly guided to become future leaders in families, communities, and the nation.
The statement noted that this year’s celebration serves as a reminder that raising the boy child is an important part of nation-building and should be approached with deliberate care and attention.
According to the Ministry, the administration of Monday Okpebholo under the SHINE Agenda has taken practical steps to ensure that the boy child is protected, supported, and prepared for a meaningful future.
It also commended Princess Edesili Okpebholo Anani for her advocacy towards children’s welfare and development in the state.
The Ministry stressed that while attention is being given to the girl child, the wellbeing and future of boys must not be neglected, noting that any society that ignores its boys builds on an incomplete foundation.
Parents, teachers, religious leaders, and community stakeholders were urged to work together in guiding boys during their formative years, as the values they learn early in life will shape the kind of adults they become.
The Ministry further encouraged the raising of boys who are not only strong and educated, but also compassionate, responsible, and committed to serving society.
It added that a stronger Edo State can only be achieved through deliberate investment in the development of today’s boys.
