Israeli Strikes Kill Five Palestinians in Gaza as Ceasefire Faces Renewed Uncertainty.

At least five Palestinians have been killed in separate Israeli strikes across the Gaza Strip, according to Palestinian health officials, raising fresh concerns about the durability of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas.

The deaths were reported on Saturday, October 10, 2026, following two separate attacks in Gaza City. Medical personnel said four people were killed near Panda Mall, while another person died in a strike in the Tuffah neighbourhood.

The Israeli military confirmed that it had carried out the strikes, stating that the operations targeted militants. However, it provided no further details about the identities of those targeted or the circumstances surrounding the reported deaths.

The latest attacks underscore the continuing insecurity in Gaza despite the ceasefire agreement, which was brokered by the United States in October 2025 to halt major hostilities and establish a pathway towards reconstruction and a broader political settlement.

Israel and Hamas Exchange Accusations Over Ceasefire

The renewed violence comes amid persistent disagreements between Israel and Hamas over compliance with the ceasefire terms.

Israel has intensified its military operations in recent weeks, accusing Hamas of rebuilding its weapons capabilities and preparing attacks in violation of the agreement.

Hamas has denied the allegations, maintaining that Israel’s continued military actions are undermining the truce and obstructing efforts to achieve lasting peace.

The competing claims reflect the challenges facing the ceasefire arrangement, which requires progress on several contentious issues, including Hamas’s disarmament, the withdrawal of Israeli forces and the reconstruction of the devastated Palestinian territory.

Despite the agreement, implementation of its broader provisions has remained limited, leaving Gaza’s population exposed to continued violence and uncertainty.

Mounting Death Toll Raises Humanitarian Concerns

According to Gaza health officials, at least 1,400 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire since the ceasefire took effect in October 2025. Israel, meanwhile, says four of its soldiers have been killed by militants in Gaza during the same period.

The latest casualties add to the devastating human toll of the conflict, which began with the Hamas led attacks on Israel on October 7, 2023. Those attacks killed approximately 1,200 people in Israel, while 251 others were taken hostage, according to Israeli figures.

Israel subsequently launched extensive bombardments and ground operations across Gaza. Palestinian health authorities have reported that more than 74,000 Palestinians have been killed since the war began.

Beyond the immediate loss of life, Gaza continues to face extensive destruction, displacement and severe humanitarian needs. The ceasefire agreement envisaged reconstruction and improved conditions for residents, but progress towards rebuilding the territory has remained slow.

Continued hostilities also threaten efforts to restore essential services, support displaced families and create conditions for a sustainable recovery.

A Fragile Path Towards Lasting Peace

The latest deaths highlight the gap between the ceasefire’s stated objectives and the situation confronting Palestinians on the ground.

Although the agreement was intended to end major fighting and establish a framework for reconstruction, continued attacks and disagreements over its implementation have raised questions about whether it can deliver lasting security.

For Palestinians living in Gaza, the persistence of deadly strikes means that the ceasefire has yet to provide a reliable guarantee of safety. For the wider region, continued violence risks further weakening diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict.

The latest incidents also reinforce the importance of credible monitoring of ceasefire commitments, protection of civilians and sustained diplomatic engagement to prevent further loss of life.

As tensions persist, the future of the agreement will depend on whether the parties can reduce hostilities and make meaningful progress on its outstanding provisions. Without tangible improvements in security and humanitarian conditions, the prospect of lasting peace and reconstruction in Gaza will remain uncertain.
