“Kogi APC Senatorial Primaries Spark Fresh Crisis as Senator Jibrin Isah Rejects Results”

Fresh controversy has erupted within Nigeria’s ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), following the disputed outcome of the party’s senatorial primaries in Kogi State, where incumbent lawmaker Jibrin Isah has openly rejected the declared results, alleging widespread irregularities and violations of internal electoral procedures.

Senator Isah, who currently represents Kogi East Senatorial District in the National Assembly, described the exercise as deeply flawed, claiming that the primary process failed to reflect the genuine will of party delegates and stakeholders across the district. The senator alleged that there were incidents of manipulation, lack of transparency, and procedural inconsistencies during the conduct of the primaries.

The development has intensified political tensions within the APC in Kogi State ahead of the next electoral cycle, with party loyalists and observers expressing concern over the growing internal divisions that could affect the party’s cohesion and electoral prospects in the region.

According to sources close to the lawmaker, Isah is considering pursuing formal channels within the party structure and, if necessary, legal action to challenge the outcome of the exercise. Supporters of the senator have also called on the APC national leadership to investigate the process and ensure fairness, accountability, and adherence to democratic principles.

The disputed primaries add to a series of internal party disagreements that have continued to shape political dynamics across several Nigerian states, particularly as parties prepare for high stakes elections. Analysts note that unresolved disputes arising from party primaries have historically contributed to defections, prolonged litigation, and weakened campaign structures.

While APC officials in Kogi State are yet to issue a comprehensive response to the allegations raised by Senator Isah, party insiders insist that the primaries were conducted in line with established guidelines. Some stakeholders have urged aggrieved aspirants to embrace dialogue and party reconciliation mechanisms in order to preserve unity ahead of future contests.

Political observers say the outcome of the dispute could significantly influence political alignments in Kogi East, a strategically important senatorial district with considerable influence in the state’s political landscape.

The APC has in recent years faced increasing scrutiny over the conduct of internal primaries in several states, with calls mounting for reforms aimed at strengthening transparency, delegate credibility, and conflict resolution mechanisms within the party system.
