“Kogi East APC Endorses Senator Jibrin Isah Echocho for 2027 Re-Election, Citing Performance and Strategic Influence”

Leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi East Senatorial District have formally endorsed Jibrin Isah Echocho for re election ahead of the 2027 general elections, pointing to his legislative track record, constituency projects, and growing influence within the National Assembly.

In a statement issued Tuesday and signed by representative Ibrahim Mohammed, the group described the senator as a “strategic asset” whose return to the Senate would consolidate ongoing development efforts across the district. According to the stakeholders, Echocho’s performance across sectors such as education, healthcare, and youth empowerment has delivered tangible benefits in all local government areas of Kogi East.

“Senator Echocho represents an easy electoral victory for the APC. His achievements are visible in every local government area, spanning education, healthcare, and community empowerment,” the statement read.

The stakeholders also called on Usman Ododo and former governor Yahaya Bello to sustain their political backing for the lawmaker, emphasizing party unity ahead of the election cycle.

They further noted that recent amendments to Senate rules on ranking and seniority could position Echocho for a principal leadership role if re-elected an outcome they argue would strengthen Kogi East’s access to federal resources and policymaking influence.

Highlighting his constituency interventions, the group cited initiatives such as the distribution of school buses, construction and renovation of classroom blocks, provision of potable water, and empowerment programmes targeting women and youth populations. On the legislative front, they referenced his advocacy for the establishment of a Federal Medical Centre in Idah, as well as sponsorship of an Orthopaedic Hospital bill currently awaiting presidential assent.

“To build on this momentum, we need an experienced hand. There is no need to change a winning team,” the statement added, underscoring the perceived value of continuity in representation.

In a related development, the Igala Vanguard, a socio-political group within the district, dismissed reports of opposition to Echocho’s re-election bid by another forum. The group’s convener, Lawrence Ankpa, described the opposing group as “faceless” and lacking credibility.

“We call on the leadership of our great party and the general public to ignore this non-existent group. There is no such person as Simon Ocheje known in the political or traditional circles of Igala land,” Ankpa stated.

The Igala Vanguard subsequently passed a vote of confidence in Echocho, urging him to remain focused amid emerging political contestations.

The endorsement reflects early positioning within the APC as political actors in Kogi East begin to align ahead of the 2027 elections, where continuity, experience, and influence within federal institutions are likely to shape campaign narratives.
