Multiple Crashes Trigger Severe Gridlock on Lagos Ibadan Expressway, Motorists Stranded for Hours.

Traffic movement was severely disrupted on the Lagos Ibadan Expressway after multiple crashes around the Kara Bridge axis triggered extensive congestion, leaving motorists and commuters stranded for hours.

The incidents reportedly affected traffic flow on the busy corridor as emergency responders and traffic management officials worked to recover vehicles and clear obstructions from the roadway. The disruption was particularly severe for motorists travelling from Lagos towards Ogun State, with traffic queues stretching across significant sections of the expressway.

According to reports, a truck crash near Kara Bridge compounded the already difficult traffic situation, forcing hundreds of motorists to remain trapped for extended periods. Traffic authorities, including the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), were involved in efforts to manage the situation and restore movement along the affected route.

The latest disruption highlights the persistent vulnerability of the Lagos Ibadan Expressway to traffic paralysis whenever crashes involving heavy duty vehicles occur. The corridor is one of Nigeria’s busiest transport routes, linking Lagos with Ogun and Oyo states and serving as a major route for commuters, commercial vehicles and long-distance travellers.

Previous incidents on the expressway have similarly resulted in prolonged gridlock, particularly around major bridges and construction or repair zones. Traffic authorities have repeatedly urged motorists to exercise caution, avoid reckless driving and follow official traffic advisories when accidents or recovery operations are underway.

Motorists planning to use the Lagos Ibadan Expressway are advised to allow extra travel time and monitor traffic updates before embarking on their journeys, particularly around the Kara Bridge and adjoining sections affected by accident recovery operations.
