  • The Edo State Government has debunked claims by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) alleging that Governor Monday Okpebholo approved N6 billion as compensation to so-called “Fulani terrorists” following the recent Uromi killings. In a strongly-worded statement on Thursday, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Fred Itua, described the accusation as a reckless falsehood designed to incite ethnic conflict and destabilise the peace of Edo State. The controversy stems from the events of 28 March, when sixteen hunters from Kano State were killed in the Udune Efandion community of Uromi. In the aftermath, Governor Okpebholo visited Kano to sympathise with the families of the victims and appeal for calm, while a delegation from Kano later travelled to Edo to engage in peace discussions. IPOB, in a statement released on 21 April, alleged that the Governor had secretly approved a N6 billion compensation package to appease the bereaved families a claim which the Edo State Government swiftly dismissed as baseless and inflammatory. “There is no truth whatsoever in the claim that Governor Monday Okpebholo approved or paid N6 billion to any group,” Itua said. “This is a fictitious and malicious lie concocted by IPOB to sow seeds of discord and destabilise the harmony we have nurtured in Edo State.” The government warned that IPOB’s repeated attempts to manipulate public sentiment and incite ethnic hostility under the cover of activism would not succeed in Edo State. “It has become a known tactic of this proscribed group to exploit tragic situations to spread hate and misinformation,” the statement added. “Their agenda of violence and ethnic disintegration has no place here.” Emphasising its commitment to unity, security and justice for all residents, the Edo State Government reaffirmed its stance against any form of ethnic or religious discrimination. The statement also urged security agencies to investigate the source of the inciting publication and prosecute those behind it, stressing that public order and peace must not be jeopardised by dangerous propaganda. “We remain resolute in our commitment to justice, peace and the protection of all Edo people, regardless of background,” the government declared. “We will continue to uphold the values of unity, tolerance and truth in the face of reckless attempts to destabilise our state.”

Nasarawa Police Restrict Movement in Lafia Ahead of Tinubu’s APC Presidential Campaign Rally.

The Nasarawa State Police Command has announced temporary movement restrictions and traffic diversions across designated areas of Lafia ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign rally scheduled for Wednesday, November 4, 2026.

The restrictions form part of security and traffic management arrangements for the political gathering, which is expected to attract President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, senior government officials, APC leaders, political stakeholders and supporters from different parts of the country.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, November 3, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, said the measures were introduced to ensure public safety, maintain law and order, and facilitate the smooth movement of the President and his entourage.

According to the police, the temporary restrictions will affect selected roads, adjoining routes and strategic locations within the Lafia metropolis.

Motorists, commercial tricycle operators, motorcycle riders and other road users have been advised to cooperate with security personnel, observe traffic regulations and follow instructions at designated diversion points.

Residents and commuters have also been encouraged to plan their journeys ahead of time, make use of alternative routes and anticipate possible delays during the exercise.

The police further advised business owners and transport operators within affected areas to make appropriate arrangements to minimize disruptions to their daily activities.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, appealed to residents to remain calm, exercise patience and cooperate with security agencies throughout the event.

He also urged individuals without legitimate business around the rally venue and designated security locations to avoid restricted areas.

Political parties, their supporters and other stakeholders were similarly advised to conduct themselves peacefully and refrain from actions capable of undermining public order or creating unnecessary tension.

The Command assured residents that adequate security personnel had been deployed to strategic locations across Lafia to manage traffic, protect lives and property, and ensure the peaceful conduct of the rally.

Members of the public were also encouraged to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements, unattended objects or other security concerns to the nearest police station.

Political Activities and Public Safety

The latest security arrangements come as political activities intensify ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.

The APC’s North Central mobilisation campaign is part of its broader efforts to consolidate grassroots support for President Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima’s re election bid.

However, the police have emphasized the importance of peaceful political participation and cooperation among political stakeholders to prevent security breaches.

While temporary movement restrictions may inconvenience residents and businesses, the effectiveness of the arrangements will depend on proper coordination, clear public communication and respect for citizens’ lawful movement.

The Nasarawa Police Command has expressed regret over the anticipated inconvenience and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and security before, during and after the rally.
