“Natasha Suspension Controversy Deepens as Senator Kingibe Says She Never Saw Committee Report”

Fresh questions have emerged over the circumstances surrounding the suspension of Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan, after Senator Ireti Kingibe, representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), reportedly stated that she never saw the committee report that formed the basis of the disciplinary action against her colleague.

The latest development adds a new dimension to an issue that has continued to generate debate within Nigeria’s political landscape. The controversy resurfaced following claims by Senator Adams Oshiomhole that some lawmakers whose names appeared on the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions report did not personally endorse or sign the document recommending Akpoti Uduaghan’s suspension. According to Oshiomhole, Kingibe was among senators who allegedly questioned the inclusion of their names in the report.

Akpoti Uduaghan was suspended by the Senate in March 2025 for six months over allegations of misconduct and violations of Senate rules. The decision triggered widespread public discussion and legal challenges, with supporters and critics offering differing interpretations of the Senate’s actions. In February 2026, Nigeria’s Court of Appeal upheld the suspension, ruling that the Senate acted within its constitutional and procedural powers.

The allegations regarding the committee report have, however, reignited concerns about transparency and due process within parliamentary proceedings. While Oshiomhole suggested that some signatures may have been improperly attached to the report, the Senate has strongly denied the allegations. Senate spokesperson Senator Yemi Adaramodu dismissed claims of forged signatures, insisting that established legislative procedures were followed and questioning why any senator with concerns would fail to raise them formally on the Senate floor.

The dispute highlights broader conversations about accountability, internal legislative processes, and the importance of maintaining public confidence in democratic institutions. Political analysts note that any uncertainty surrounding committee reports or legislative documentation could have implications for public trust in parliamentary decision making.

As debates continue, neither the Senate leadership nor the committee involved has announced any fresh investigation into the allegations. The matter remains a subject of national interest, particularly given the political significance of Akpoti Uduaghan’s suspension and the broader discussions it has generated about governance, representation, and institutional transparency in Nigeria.
