NAWOJ Moves Toward 2026 Triennial Conference With Nine Member Credentials Committee.

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has inaugurated a nine member Credentials Committee as part of preparations for its 2026 Triennial National Delegates Conference scheduled to hold in November.

The committee was constituted following a resolution of NAWOJ’s National Executive Council (NEC) at its meeting in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, according to a statement signed by the association’s National Secretary, Wasilah Ladan.

The inauguration was conducted by the National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Alhassan Yahya Abdullahi, who charged the committee to approach its assignment with integrity, professionalism, patriotism and transparency.

Abdullahi also urged the committee to ensure that all processes leading to the conference are conducted in a fair and credible manner, with strict adherence to the NUJ Constitution and other applicable regulations guiding the activities of NAWOJ.

NAWOJ National Chairperson, Aishatu Ibrahim, similarly called on members of the committee to carry out their responsibilities with fairness, impartiality and professionalism.

She stressed that compliance with established procedures would be important to protecting the integrity and unity of the association as it prepares for the national delegates conference.

The nine member committee is chaired by Comrade Rajab Mohammed. Other members are Comrade Nsibiet John, Comrade Farida Abubakar, Comrade Maureen Sheyin representing Zone A, Comrade Abisola Ariwodola representing Zone B, Comrade Stephanie Ude representing Zone C, Comrade Grace Akwe Ogbayi representing Zone D, Comrade Rashida Yusuf representing Zone E, and Comrade Grace Orumieyefa representing Zone F.

The committee is expected to coordinate the credentials and other preparatory processes required for the successful organisation and conduct of the 2026 NAWOJ Triennial National Delegates Conference.

NAWOJ operates under the umbrella of the NUJ and represents the professional and welfare interests of women journalists across Nigeria. The NUJ’s official historical record shows that Aisha Ibrahim emerged as NAWOJ’s national leader at the association’s 2023 Triennial Delegates Conference in Abuja, succeeding Ladi Bala.

The establishment of the 2026 Credentials Committee therefore marks an early administrative step toward the next national conference, where delegates are expected to participate in the association’s leadership and organisational processes.

The committee’s work will be closely linked to the credibility of the conference process, particularly the verification of delegates and compliance with the rules governing participation. Previous NAWOJ conference preparations have similarly involved credentials committees tasked with overseeing the processes preceding national delegates conferences.

The NUJ remains the supervisory professional body associated with NAWOJ, while the association continues to operate as a platform focused on the professional development, welfare and interests of women journalists in Nigeria.
