Di Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) don decide say e no go fold hand as e don move to intervene for one of di worst parts of di Sapele Benin road for Edo State.

Di commission don scope about 15.4 kilometres of di road between Benin, Ologbo Junction and Sapele, where plenty portions don bad reach say some places hard for motorists to pass. NDDC Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, talk say di commission don receive plenty complaints from motorists and residents about di suffering wey di road dey cause.

Di decision come after one joint inspection for Edo State involving Ogbuku, Works Minister Senator Dave Umahi, Governor Monday Okpebholo, members of National Assembly committees on works and oda stakeholders. Dem inspect di Benin-Agbor and Sapele Benin corridors, together with some ongoing construction projects around Benin Asaba.

According to di report, di wahala for di Sapele Benin corridor partly connect to disruption for di funding arrangement wey dey support di road project under di NNPC road infrastructure tax-credit scheme. NDDC say e go work together wit di Federal Ministry of Works so dat any repair wey dem do go follow di original road design and fit last for long.

Di bad condition of di road don affect transport, business and everyday movement for di area. Earlier, residents and traders for Sapele Road axis for Benin City don complain say bad road dey make vehicles get stuck, while flooding during rain dey make some sections almost impossible to pass. Road repairs wey government don already carry out for parts of di corridor don begin improve movement and business activities.

Ogbuku say di NDDC intervention na part of di commission effort to support government development plans and reduce di hardship wey people for Niger Delta dey face because of poor infrastructure. He also make am clear say di commission go collaborate wit di Federal Government, Edo State Government and oda relevant partners to make sure di affected section become safe and motorable again.

Governor Okpebholo don earlier describe Edo as an important gateway between di South-South, South East, South West and Northern parts of Nigeria, meaning say bad road for di state fit affect movement and trade far beyond Edo.
