Niger State Cracks Down on Illegal Healthcare Facilities, Shuts 15 Clinics and Arrests Fake Doctor in Suleja.

Authorities in Niger State have intensified efforts to safeguard public health following the closure of 15 private healthcare facilities and the arrest of an individual accused of posing as a medical doctor in Suleja Local Government Area.

The enforcement action was carried out by the Niger State Ministry of Secondary and Tertiary Healthcare as part of a broader campaign to ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and improve standards across the state’s medical sector.

According to state officials, the affected facilities were found to be operating in violation of established healthcare guidelines, including issues related to licensing, professional staffing, and operational standards. The facilities were subsequently sealed to prevent further medical activities pending regulatory review and compliance.

During the operation, authorities also apprehended a suspected fake doctor allegedly practicing without the necessary professional qualifications and legal authorization. Officials said the arrest underscores growing concerns over the activities of unlicensed practitioners who pose significant risks to public health and patient safety.

The state government emphasized that healthcare facilities must adhere to approved standards designed to protect citizens and maintain confidence in the healthcare system. Regulators noted that routine inspections and enforcement exercises would continue across Niger State to identify and sanction facilities operating outside the law.

Health experts have long warned that unregistered clinics and unqualified practitioners can contribute to misdiagnosis, improper treatment, and avoidable medical complications. Consequently, authorities are encouraging residents to verify the credentials of healthcare providers and patronize only duly registered medical institutions.

The latest enforcement action reflects a wider national effort to strengthen healthcare regulation, improve service delivery, and combat medical quackery in Nigeria. Stakeholders say sustained monitoring, public awareness, and stricter enforcement remain critical to protecting patients and enhancing healthcare outcomes.

By shutting down non compliant facilities and prosecuting individuals engaged in unauthorized medical practice, Niger State authorities aim to reinforce accountability within the healthcare sector and safeguard the wellbeing of residents.
