“Nigerian Air Force Intensifies Counterterrorism Campaign, Eliminates Insurgents in Adamawa and Borno Air Raids”

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has intensified its counterterrorism operations in northeastern Nigeria, carrying out coordinated air strikes in parts of Adamawa and Borno states that reportedly neutralized several terrorists and destroyed insurgent hideouts linked to extremist groups operating in the region.

According to military authorities, the operations targeted identified terrorist enclaves and logistics bases believed to be used by fighters affiliated with Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP). The air offensives formed part of ongoing joint military efforts aimed at weakening insurgent activities, disrupting supply routes, and restoring security across Nigeria’s troubled North East corridor.

NAF officials disclosed that the strikes were executed after intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions confirmed the movement and concentration of suspected terrorists within strategic locations in both states. The operations reportedly led to the destruction of structures, weapons storage facilities, and mobility assets used by the armed groups.

Security analysts say the latest offensive reflects Nigeria’s renewed reliance on coordinated air power and intelligence driven operations to counter evolving insurgent threats, particularly in remote forested and border communities where extremist groups often establish operational camps.

The North East region has remained the epicenter of insurgency-related violence for more than a decade, with repeated attacks on civilians, military formations, humanitarian workers, and public infrastructure. Despite significant territorial recoveries by Nigerian security forces in recent years, sporadic attacks and ambushes continue to pose security and humanitarian challenges across affected communities.

Military observers note that sustained aerial bombardments have increasingly become central to Nigeria’s counterinsurgency strategy, especially in areas difficult to access through conventional ground operations. However, experts have also stressed the importance of combining military action with long-term humanitarian support, regional cooperation, intelligence sharing, and community stabilization initiatives to achieve lasting peace.

The Nigerian government has repeatedly reaffirmed its commitment to defeating terrorism and restoring stability in the region through joint operations involving the armed forces and regional security partnerships under the Multinational Joint Task Force framework.

Residents in parts of Borno and Adamawa have continued to call for strengthened security presence, improved intelligence coordination, and post-conflict reconstruction efforts as communities attempt to rebuild livelihoods disrupted by years of insurgency.
