“Nigerian Troops Eliminate Two Lakurawa Terrorists, Recover Arms in Sokoto and Katsina Operations”

The Nigerian military has intensified its counterterrorism operations in the North-West, with troops successfully neutralizing two suspected Lakurawa terrorists during a gun battle in Sokoto State while also recovering weapons and rustled livestock in separate security operations across Katsina State.

According to military authorities, the operation formed part of ongoing offensives targeting armed extremist groups and criminal networks operating in Nigeria’s northwestern region. Security sources disclosed that troops engaged the suspected terrorists in a fierce exchange of gunfire, leading to the deaths of two operatives believed to be affiliated with the Lakurawa group.

Weapons and other combat-related items were reportedly recovered from the scene following the encounter, further weakening the operational capacity of the armed group. The Nigerian military has continued to sustain pressure on terror-linked factions and bandit groups blamed for deadly attacks, kidnappings, cattle rustling, and cross border criminal activities across parts of Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, and Katsina states.

In a related operation in Katsina State, troops reportedly intercepted criminal elements and recovered rustled livestock believed to have been stolen during recent raids on rural communities. The operation is part of broader security measures aimed at protecting farming settlements, trade routes, and vulnerable border communities frequently targeted by armed groups.

The Lakurawa group, which has increasingly drawn the attention of Nigerian security agencies in recent months, is suspected to have established operational links within remote communities around the Nigeria–Niger Republic border corridor. Security analysts warn that the emergence of new armed factions in the region could further complicate ongoing efforts to stabilize the North-West already grappling with banditry and insurgent violence.

Military authorities reiterated their commitment to sustaining coordinated offensives against terrorists and criminal gangs while urging residents to continue sharing credible intelligence with security agencies. The Armed Forces also emphasized that collaborative efforts between local communities and security operatives remain critical to dismantling terror cells and restoring lasting peace in affected areas.

The latest military successes come amid renewed nationwide security operations targeting insurgency, organized banditry, and transnational criminal activities threatening livelihoods and regional stability across northern Nigeria.
