Nollywood Stars Gather in Lagos to Honour Olu Jacobs.
Nollywood actors, filmmakers, family members and other dignitaries gathered in Lagos on Friday for the funeral service of veteran actor Olu Jacobs, who died on September 16, 2026, at the age of 84.
The funeral service is being held at This Present House, Freedom Way, Lekki Phase 1, following a Night of Tributes and Service of Songs held at Glover Memorial Hall, Lagos Island, on Wednesday.
Among those who attended the tribute ceremony were Richard Mofe Damijo, Funke Akindele, Sola Sobowale, Jide Kosoko, Adebayo Salami, Hilda Dokubo, Kate Henshaw, Norbert Young, Desmond Elliot and other members of the Nigerian film industry. Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, was also present.
Also in attendance are Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, his wife Oluremi Hamzat, Lagos State First Lady Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, former Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun, and former Ekiti State First Lady Bisi Adeleye Fayemi.
His wife, veteran actress Joke Silva, and their sons and their sons, Olusoji and Olugbenga Jacobs, were also present at the service during the funeral ceremonies.
The Lagos gathering featured personal recollections, performances and tributes from colleagues who worked with Jacobs during his career in theatre, television and film.
Jacobs, whose full name was Oludotun Baiyewun Jacobs, had a career spanning more than five decades. He trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London before working in British theatre and television and later becoming a prominent figure in Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
He received several honours during his career, including the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role in 2007 and the national honour of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic, MFR, in 2011.
Friday’s funeral service is expected to be followed by a private burial, according to the funeral programme announced by the family.
