NSCDC Arrests Suspected Cable Vandal, Recovers Four Bags of Electricity Conductors in Kano.
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kano State Command, has arrested a 20 year old man suspected of vandalizing electricity infrastructure and recovered four bags of aluminium electricity conductor cables in Dambatta Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect, identified as Jamilu Inusa of Kauyen Mudu village in Dambatta, was arrested by operatives of the NSCDC Danbatta Division at about 4:15 a.m. on Friday, October 2, 2026, following what the Corps described as credible intelligence.
According to details released by the Kano State Command, the suspect was intercepted while driving a white Volkswagen Golf Wagon with registration number KMC 656 ZJ. A subsequent investigation and search operation reportedly led to the recovery of four bags containing aluminium electricity conductor cables concealed inside a compound in Dambatta town.
The recovered materials were identified as bare stranded aluminium conductors of ACSR/AAC type, which are commonly used in overhead 33KV, 11KV and low voltage electricity distribution networks. The NSCDC said the vehicle allegedly used to transport the suspected vandalized materials was also recovered.
The State Commandant of the NSCDC, Mohammed Hassan Agalama, said two other suspects allegedly connected to the incident were still at large, with efforts ongoing to locate and apprehend them. He added that the suspect would face appropriate legal action after the completion of investigations.
The development underscores the continuing challenge of electricity infrastructure vandalism in Nigeria, where the theft or destruction of power distribution equipment can disrupt electricity supply, increase repair costs and undermine the reliability of already strained power networks.
The NSCDC said it remains committed to protecting critical national infrastructure and urged members of the public to provide credible information that could assist security agencies in preventing vandalism and safeguarding electricity infrastructure.
The suspect remains presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.
