The Executive Chairman of Oredo Local Government Council, Hon. Engr. Gabriel Iduseri, today met with a group of traders from Oba Market who had gathered at the council secretariat to voice concerns over restrictions stemming from ongoing market renovations.
Assuring the traders that their requests would be duly considered, Chairman Iduseri pledged to reconvene with them within two hours to review the issues raised. The market spokesperson expressed frustration over how the renovations have disrupted vendors’ livelihoods, particularly with the Christmas season fast approaching.
Staying true to his promise, Engr. Iduseri visited the renovation site at Oba Market shortly afterward. Accompanied by Site Engineer Engr. Ken, a representative of the contractor, he reviewed progress on the project.
Engr. Ken clarified that traders had not been displaced without notice but were instead informed of a relocation scheduled for February 2026. He confirmed the completion of Phase One by that date, allowing traders to move into upgraded facilities as Phase Two begins. Praise was extended to both the Chairman and Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo for their support.
In his remarks, Chairman Iduseri commended the contractors for their considerable progress and thanked the governor for enabling the market’s upgrade. One of the vendor‑leaders, Mr. Sunday Omorothiomwan, spoke on behalf of his colleagues to thank the Chairman for his prompt engagement.
The Chairman’s entourage included Chief of Staff Hon. Ebegue Igho Osagie, Supervising Councilors, Special Adviser on Social Mobilization Engr. Peter Asemota, Mary Jane Omofese, and Comrade John Osabuohien.
