Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, has commended the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for recovering over N853 billion in crime proceeds within one year. He described this achievement as a step in the right direction but emphasized that it’s just a tiny fraction of the funds looted from the public treasury by corrupt leaders.
Obi stressed the need for transparency in utilizing recovered funds, focusing on critical areas like development, health, education, and poverty alleviation.
He suggested tripling the Federal Government’s20245Universal Basic Education contribution with an additional N503 billion and allocating N350 billion as micro-credit to 19 northern states.
Obi urged the EFCC to ensure that recovered funds are strategically invested to break cycles of poverty, illiteracy, and insecurity, and to turn every kobo retrieved into classrooms, hospitals, skills, and opportunities for ordinary Nigerians
