The Ogun State Police Command has dismissed as false and misleading reports circulating on social media alleging bandit attacks on schools and communities in Ota, Ifo, and other parts of the state.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Command assured residents that Ogun remains peaceful and secure, and urged the public to disregard the viral claims, which it described as capable of causing unnecessary panic.
Police authorities said there had been no reported incident of banditry or coordinated attacks on educational institutions or residential areas in the locations mentioned. They added that security personnel across the state remain on high alert and are actively patrolling all flashpoints.
The clarification comes amid growing concern over the spread of unverified security alerts on social media platforms. The Command warned individuals behind the false reports to desist, noting that the deliberate spread of misinformation constitutes an offence and could lead to prosecution
Residents were also encouraged to rely on official communication channels for security updates and to promptly report any suspicious activity to the police or other relevant agencies.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property across Ogun State and said it would continue to work with community stakeholders to maintain public safety.
