In a bid to enhance agricultural practices and knowledge among farmers, the Ogun State Government has set a target of registering an additional 100,000 farmers under the Ogun State Farmer Information Management System. This initiative aims to provide farmers with access to comprehensive information and resources on best agricultural practices.
Dr. Bolu Owotomo, the Commissioner for Agriculture, made this announcement during a workshop on Farmers and Value Chain Actors registration held in Abeokuta, the state capital. The workshop focused on training enumerators and supervisors and registering them to gather accurate information on farmers, thereby enriching the state’s agricultural database.
The registration of these additional farmers will bring the total number of registered farmers in the state to 160,000. Commissioner Owotomo emphasized the importance of accurate registration, stating that it will contribute to improving the state’s food security and economic growth.
Mrs. Mosunmola Owo-Odunsi, the State Coordinator of the Ogun State Economic Transformation Project (OGSTEP), explained that the workshop aimed to train enumerators on how to register farmers and value chain actors in the Ogun State Farmer Information Management System (OGFIMS). The platform serves as a repository of information and knowledge for farmers in the state, connecting them with stakeholders in the agricultural sector.
Mr. Lava Kumar, the team lead and project consultant for OGFIMS, highlighted the role of enumerators in bringing more farmers into the digital platform. This will enable them to benefit from the resources and support available in the agricultural sector, ultimately contributing to the growth and development of the state’s agricultural industry.
