OKPEBHOLO APPROVES MAJOR RESTRUCTURING OF EDO STATE MINISTRIES

In a statement signed by Secretary to the state Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, the Edo State Government has announced a comprehensive restructuring of its ministries, following approval by the Executive Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo. The reform, which introduces new ministries and revives previously defunct ones, is aimed at enhancing administrative efficiency and aligning state governance with federal structures.

According to the statement, the restructuring is designed to ensure seamless integration of the Governor’s SHINE Agenda with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. The move reflects the state’s commitment to strengthening institutional frameworks for effective service delivery.

With this reorganisation, the total number of ministries in Edo State now stands at twenty-eight (28), covering key areas of governance, economic growth, human capital development, and infrastructural advancement.

The newly approved ministries include the Ministry of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy; the Ministry of Livestock Development; the Ministry of Oil and Gas Resources; and the Ministry of Public Security and Safety, among others. Each portfolio is expected to play a crucial role in driving the administration’s development agenda.

Governor Okpebholo emphasised that the restructuring represents a strategic step toward improved coordination, accountability, and performance across government institutions. The initiative also seeks to strengthen the delivery capacity of ministries to meet the evolving needs of Edo citizens.

Below is the updated list of the twenty-eight ministries and their respective commissioners as approved by the Governor:

1. Ministry of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy — Pending

8. Ministry of Livestock Development — Prof. Omorodion Ignatius Ikponwosa

9. Ministry of Environment and Sustainability — Hon. (Barr.) Nosa T. Adams

10. ⁠Ministry of Health — Dr Cyril Adams Oshiomhole

11. ⁠Ministry of Education — Dr Emmanuel Paddy Iyamu

12. ⁠Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development — Dr Lucky Eseigbe

23. Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning — Dr Elizabeth Ebosele

24. Ministry of Transportation — Hon. Saturday Uwuilekhue Idehen (JP)

25. Ministry of Justice — Prof. Roland Itoya Otaru, SAN

26. Ministry of Labour and Productivity — Godwin Afekokhe Eshieshi

27. Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations — Hon. (Barr.) Kenneth Okoruwa Ihensekhien

28. Ministry of Public Security and Safety — Hon. Ebea Festus Odianosen.

Governor Okpebholo reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to good governance, economic transformation, institutional efficiency, and inclusive development, assuring that the new structure will better position Edo State for sustainable growth and prosperity.
