The Governor announced the approvals on Monday, April 6, 2026, during the commissioning of the Ehi Aganmonmen Business Administration E-Library and the groundbreaking for the Peter Omoh Dunia Fitness Centre and the university’s Health Centre in Etsako West Local Government Area.
Okpebholo described the event as a significant milestone in his administration’s efforts to reposition the education sector and improve learning conditions in the state.
“This is a defining moment for Edo State University, Iyamho. Our administration remains committed to strengthening education through strategic investments in infrastructure and capacity development,” he said.
The Governor commended Chief Ehi Aganmonmen for donating computers and furniture for the E-Library, noting that the facility would enhance digital learning and academic excellence.
He also praised Mr. Peter Omoh Dunia for supporting the development of the Fitness Centre, describing it as an important investment in student health and wellbeing.
Okpebholo further acknowledged contributions from other stakeholders, including a parent who sponsored the architectural designs and the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adetimirin, who donated one month’s salary to support the projects.
He stressed the need for stronger collaboration between government and the private sector, urging corporate organisations and individuals to partner with the state in advancing development.
On healthcare, the Governor lauded the university’s plan to upgrade its medical facility, assuring continued government support toward improving healthcare services within the institution.
Addressing students and management, he called for proper utilisation and maintenance of the facilities, emphasizing that the investments are aimed at securing the future of the institution.
The Governor noted that the projects align with his administration’s SHINE Agenda, which prioritises education, healthcare, and infrastructure development.
In addition, he commissioned several projects at Auchi Polytechnic, including an ICT hall, administrative blocks, and a sporting arena, all supported by private sector contributions.
Dignitaries at the event included Senator Adams Oshiomhole, Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Musa Ikhilor; Chief of Staff, Hon. Yakubu Musa; and former Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, among other top government officials.
The commissioning and groundbreaking ceremony marks another milestone in Edo State’s drive to position itself as a hub of academic excellence and innovation.
