There was palpable tension at the airport road venue, of the people’s Democratic party senatorial primaries following an attack on some delegates by suspected hoodlums.
It was learned that the hoodlums who stormed the venue of the primary election exercise allegedly unleashed mayhem on delegates, leading to the death of one Mr. Tunde Igbinoba, the delegate from Oredo ward 5
Obaland Magazine gathered that four journalists covering the exercises were not spared from the attack before they were arrested and taken into custody at the command Intelligence Rapid Respond Squad at Oko Central, Benin City by operatives of Edo state police command
The Journalists who were arrested and taken into custody for several hours included Deborah Coka of News Agency of Nigeria, Sunny Ohioze of African Independent Television, and two others
When contacted the police image maker, Mr. Bello Kontongs, confirmed the arrest of the journalists but explained that the report of the killing of a delegate from Oredo ward 5 had not to be reported to the police
Correspondent Charity Ozigbo-Essere reports the Journalists were later freed after several hours in police custody.
