Osun Decides 2026: Adeleke Urges Voters to Reject Return to ‘Half Salary’ Era Ahead of Governorship Election.

As political campaigns intensify ahead of the August 15, 2026, Osun State governorship election, Governor Ademola Adeleke has appealed to residents to reject the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), arguing that his administration has restored financial stability and workers’ welfare after years of economic challenges.

Speaking during campaign engagements across the state, Adeleke said the election presents voters with a choice between sustaining what he described as responsible governance and returning to an era when civil servants experienced delayed and partial salary payments. The governor maintained that his administration has prioritized the prompt payment of workers’ salaries and pensions while investing in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and social welfare initiatives.

Adeleke urged eligible voters to support the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming poll, insisting that his government has fulfilled key campaign promises and remains committed to improving the living standards of Osun residents. According to him, preserving economic stability and protecting workers’ welfare should remain central to the state’s development agenda.

The governor’s remarks come as political parties intensify campaigns ahead of what is expected to be a closely contested election. The APC, which is seeking to reclaim the governorship, has continued to criticize the Adeleke administration’s performance while presenting its own policy agenda to voters. Political observers say the election will serve as a significant test of public confidence in the state’s current leadership and competing visions for Osun’s future.

The issue of salary payments remains politically significant in Osun, where previous administrations faced criticism over the payment of half salaries during periods of severe fiscal constraints. As campaigns continue, analysts expect governance, economic management, infrastructure development, and workers’ welfare to dominate public debate before voters head to the polls.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has repeatedly urged political parties and supporters to conduct peaceful campaigns and adhere to electoral guidelines to ensure a credible, free, and fair election.
