Otti Sets Up Abia Labour Party 2027 Campaign Council, Names Agwu U. Agwu as Director General.
Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has constituted the Labour Party’s 2027 Governorship Campaign Council, formally establishing the political structure that will coordinate the party’s campaign activities ahead of the next governorship election.
Otti will serve as Chairman of the campaign council, while his deputy, Ikechukwu Emetu, has been named Vice Chairman. The appointments were announced in a statement issued by Ferdinand Ekeoma, the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity.
The council’s structure extends across Abia’s three senatorial zones and the state’s constituencies, reflecting an effort to establish campaign coordination from the state level down to individual constituencies.
Former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Agwu U. Agwu, was appointed Director-General of the campaign council. Other key appointments include Dr. Eric Egwuibe as Director of Finance, Dr. Chibuzor Obiesili as Director of Strategy and Planning, Kelechi Nwaiwu, SAN, as Director of Legal, and Onyebuchi Ememanka as Director of Publicity.
Dr. Christian Anokwuru was appointed Director of Special Duties, while retired Assistant Inspector General of Police Arungwa Nwazue will oversee the Security Directorate.
The campaign council also has designated coordinators for Abia Central, Abia North and Abia South. Professor Udochukwu Ogbonna will coordinate Abia Central, Chief Emeka Charles Kalu will oversee Abia North, while Chimaobi Ebisike will coordinate Abia South.
Additional coordinators have been appointed across the state’s constituencies, including areas covering Umuahia, Aba, Bende, Ohafia, Arochukwu, Isiala Ngwa, Osisioma, Obingwa, Ugwunagbo, Ukwa, Isuikwuato and Umunneochi. The arrangement is designed to connect the party’s state leadership with grassroots campaign structures.
The campaign council is expected to be inaugurated on Monday, October 5, 2026, at the Michael Okpara Auditorium in Umuahia at 12 noon. Members have been directed to be seated before the governor’s arrival.
The development comes as political parties and prospective candidates begin strengthening their organisational structures ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 elections. For Otti, who is seeking another term in office, the formation of a dedicated campaign council represents an early organisational step toward mobilizing support across Abia’s senatorial districts and constituencies.
The council’s broad structure also places emphasis on constituency level coordination, potentially giving the Labour Party a more defined mechanism for communicating its campaign agenda and mobilizing supporters across the state.
