Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has explained why pupils and teachers abducted during a school excursion in the state remain in captivity, attributing delays in their rescue to the challenging terrain of the Old Oyo National Park where the incident occurred.

Speaking on ongoing efforts to secure the release of the victims, Makinde said security agencies have continued intensive search and rescue operations despite the difficult geographical conditions of the vast national park. According to the governor, the rugged landscape and dense forest environment have complicated efforts by security personnel to locate and safely recover those still being held by their abductors.

The victims were kidnapped while travelling for an educational excursion, triggering widespread concern among parents, education stakeholders, and residents across Oyo State.
