The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum has cautioned the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and other aggrieved members against attempts to derail the party’s forthcoming national convention scheduled for November 15, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.

In a communiqué issued at the end of its 7th meeting in Gusau, Zamfara State, on Saturday, August 23, 2025, the Forum reaffirmed its full support for the resolutions of the party’s 101st National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in July.

The governors urged members to remain steadfast, describing the PDP as “the only democratic institution and viable alternative for restoring Nigeria to the path of good governance and development.”

The meeting, chaired by Forum Chairman and Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, deliberated on insecurity, the erosion of democratic values, and preparations for the November convention. The governors praised PDP leaders and members for their resilience despite defections, stressing that the party remains the people’s choice.

The communiqué also accused the ruling APC of “divisive governance and harsh policies that continue to impose suffering on Nigerians,” while reiterating the PDP’s resolve to rescue the country.

Wike, however, has been vocal about his displeasure with recent decisions of the PDP National Working Committee (NWC). On Channels Television’s Politics Today of August 19, 2025, he rejected the South-South caretaker committee and insisted that his ally, Chief Dan Orbih, remains the duly elected National Vice Chairman, South-South, warning that ignoring this could trigger “another round of crisis.”

He also dismissed the zoning committee led by Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, and has since fallen out with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, another former ally in the G5 bloc. Party members have accused Wike of anti-party activities following his acceptance of a ministerial role in the APC-led federal cabinet allegations he strongly denies.
