The governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, has met with more than 250 former members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who have now joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state’s Fune local government area. These individuals defected from the PDP to the APC.
During the time that he was meeting with the defectors, Governor Buni, who was being represented by his Deputy, Idi Barde Gubana, referred to the recent events as a significant defeat for the opposition.
He gave the newcomers the assurance that the party will treat them on the same level as the other members of the party, and he stated that the “APC believes in one united Nigeria, opposed to the PDP.”
In his remarks, the state party chairman, Mohammed Gadaka, congratulated the defectors on their decision to join the ruling APC and urged members of other political parties in the state to follow the defectors’ example in order to move the state forward. The defectors had previously been members of another political party.
A former member of the PDP executive in the Fune local government named Mallan Iliyasu Adamu Jilum, who spoke on behalf of the defectors, stated that the timing of their choice to switch sides could not have been more appropriate.
Jilum stated, “We left our previous party due to Governor Mai Mala Buni’s open and honest leadership.” This was the reason for our departure.
