A grandmother, Fatimo Ganiyu, has been taken into police custody on allegations of locking up three infants in the Ikotun area of Lagos State. The suspect was arrested on Friday at around 4:00 p.m. The distressing situation came to light when a resident in the area shared a video with  , showing the malnourished male and female infants desperately trying to escape the house.Police hold grandma for locking up three infants
According to Pelumi, a resident who spoke with  the children had been locked up for several days without access to food or water. Some sources claim that the children had been abandoned for months, while others believe it had been weeks. The Ikotun Division of the police received information about the three children, two boys and a girl aged between two and four, being locked up by their grandmother in Agodo Egbe, Ikotun.
Despite their malnourished state, the infants were rescued by the police and brought to the station. On April 17, 2024, at around 4:00 p.m., the Ikotun Division received the report and immediately dispatched a team of anti-crime detectives led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) to the scene. The children, though visibly malnourished and unhealthy, were successfully rescued and taken to the station.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident and assured that the infants would receive the necessary care and attention. The investigation into the matter is ongoing. Fatimo Ganiyu, the suspect, has been arrested, and the infants will be transferred to a facility for proper treatment and care.
