The Commissioner of Police in Edo State, CP Monday Agbonika, has praised the Edo State Chapter of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA) for its humanitarian outreach to children at the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp in Uhogua, Ovia North-East Local Government Area, as part of activities marking the 2026 Children’s Day celebration.
The outreach, which took place on May 30, was led by the Chairperson of POWA Edo State Chapter, Mrs. Helen Ada Agbonika. The programme was designed to bring hope and happiness to displaced children and their families through the distribution of food items, educational materials, clothing, and other relief supplies.
The delegation also organized recreational activities, games, and interactive sessions aimed at boosting the children’s confidence and creating a sense of belonging.
Speaking on the initiative, CP Agbonika described the gesture as a reflection of the caring and community-oriented values of the Nigeria Police Force. He noted that POWA’s commitment to supporting vulnerable children and communities complements the efforts of the Command in promoting social welfare and humanitarian service.
According to him, children remain the future of society and must continue to receive love, protection, care, and support regardless of their circumstances.
Mrs. Agbonika, in her remarks, encouraged the children to remain hopeful, embrace education, and stay focused on building a brighter future despite the challenges they face.
The event ended on a joyful note, with the children expressing appreciation for the support, generosity, and memorable moments shared with them during the Children’s Day celebration.
The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, said the Command remains committed to supporting initiatives that promote the welfare of children and vulnerable members of society.
