“Rivers APC Clears 33 Assembly Aspirants, Disqualifies 65 Ahead of State House Primaries”

The All Progressives Congress in Rivers State has cleared 33 aspirants to contest for seats in the State House of Assembly while disqualifying 65 others following the party’s internal screening exercise ahead of the forthcoming legislative primaries.

The development marks a significant phase in the party’s preparations for the next electoral cycle, as internal political alignments continue to shape the contest for legislative representation across Rivers State’s constituencies.

According to party officials, the screening committee reviewed the credentials, eligibility status, and compliance records of aspirants seeking the APC ticket for the Rivers State House of Assembly. The exercise reportedly focused on constitutional requirements, party loyalty, documentation, and adherence to internal guidelines established by the party leadership.

The APC confirmed that only 33 aspirants successfully met the screening benchmarks and were subsequently cleared to proceed to the next stage of the nomination process. In contrast, 65 aspirants were disqualified over varying concerns linked to incomplete documentation, alleged inconsistencies in submitted credentials, and failure to satisfy specific party conditions.

Political observers say the outcome of the screening exercise underscores the deepening competition within the Rivers APC, particularly as rival blocs continue to reposition for influence ahead of future elections in one of Nigeria’s most politically strategic states.

Sources within the party indicated that some of the affected aspirants may seek redress through the APC’s appeal mechanisms, a move that could further intensify internal negotiations and political consultations in the coming days.

The Rivers APC screening outcome also reflects broader political tensions within the state, where party structures and alliances have remained subjects of intense legal and political scrutiny in recent months.

While the party has yet to release detailed public explanations for each disqualification, insiders maintain that the screening process was conducted in line with APC constitutional provisions and electoral guidelines.

The full list of cleared aspirants spans several state constituencies, with party stakeholders expected to monitor the primaries closely as the APC seeks to consolidate its legislative presence in Rivers State.

Cleared Rivers APC Assembly Aspirants

The party confirmed that 33 aspirants were cleared across various constituencies for participation in the upcoming House of Assembly primaries.

Disqualified Aspirants

A total of 65 aspirants were reportedly screened out during the exercise due to issues ranging from documentation irregularities to non-compliance with party requirements.

The latest development is expected to shape political calculations within the Rivers APC and may influence alliance-building efforts ahead of the party’s internal elections.
