Sokoto Police Neutralize Two Bandits, Arrest Suspects in Renewed Security Operations.
SOKOTO, Nigeria The Sokoto State Police Command has recorded fresh operational gains in its ongoing efforts to contain banditry and other criminal activities across the state, with two suspected bandits neutralized during a gun duel and several suspects arrested in separate operations.
According to a Nigeria Police Force operational report covering activities between July 29 and 30, 2026, tactical teams in Sokoto responded to a bandit attack and engaged the assailants in a gun battle. Police said two bandits were neutralized during the confrontation.
The operation also resulted in the recovery of a locally fabricated pistol, 27 rounds of live ammunition and two cutlasses. The police reported that no security personnel or villagers were killed in the encounter.
In a separate operation during the same period, police arrested a suspect found in possession of a stolen Toyota Prado reportedly belonging to the Chief Judge of Sokoto State. The vehicle was recovered through stop and search operations, according to the police.
The latest developments form part of broader security operations across Sokoto, where authorities have intensified intelligence led policing and tactical interventions against banditry, kidnapping, theft and other forms of organized crime.
Earlier in July, the Sokoto Police Command also reported foiling a bandit attack in Tangaza Local Government Area and recovering 11 rustled cattle. The command said its personnel responded to a distress call, engaged the attackers and forced them to abandon the animals before fleeing into a nearby forest.
The Police Command has continued to urge residents to provide credible and timely information to security agencies, stressing that community cooperation remains important in identifying criminal networks and preventing attacks.
While the reported operations represent tactical successes, the continued occurrence of bandit attacks and related criminal activity highlights the wider security challenges confronting communities in parts of north western Nigeria. Sustained intelligence gathering, coordinated security operations and stronger community level security mechanisms remain critical to preventing criminal groups from regrouping.
The arrests reported by the police remain allegations at this stage, and the suspects are entitled to due process and the presumption of innocence until proven guilty by a court of law.
