A 13 year old boy has died and several others have been seriously injured after part of a fountain collapsed during celebrations for Spain’s 2026 FIFA World Cup victory in Ciudad Rodrigo, Salamanca province.
The incident occurred shortly after midnight on Monday, July 20, as supporters gathered around the Árbol Gordo fountain to celebrate Spain’s 1–0 extra-time victory over Argentina in the World Cup final. Reports indicate that part of the structure gave way amid the crowd, striking people in the area.
Emergency responders, including police, firefighters and medical teams, were dispatched to the scene. The teenager was reportedly trapped beneath debris and later died from his injuries.
