A night of terror engulfed Kwami community in Gombe State on Sunday when suspected kidnappers attacked, killing a resident identified as Adamu Commander.
Eyewitnesses said villagers had mobilized to resist the intruders after learning of their presence, but the armed assailants overpowered them. In the confrontation, Commander was captured and gruesomely killed, with sources alleging his throat was slit before the attackers fled into the night.
The victim, described as a respected community member, is survived by two wives. His death has plunged his family and the entire community into mourning.
“This incident has shaken everyone here. We tried to defend ourselves, but the gunmen were heavily armed. Now we have lost one of our own. People are living in fear,” a resident said.
Locals are now appealing to security agencies and government authorities to move urgently to protect rural communities increasingly vulnerable to such violent assaults.
