A river that forgets its source will surely dry up. Today, January 12, 2025, marks two months since His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, assumed office as the Governor of Edo State. In this short span, Governor Okpebholo has demonstrated his commitment to restoring peace and harmony in the state, healing the divisive wounds inflicted by his predecessor, Godwin Obaseki.

I had the opportunity to interact with the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, who shared insights into the Governor’s achievements in the past two months. According to him, Governor Okpebholo’s leadership style has been described as dynamic and practical, earning him accolades for reasserting leadership in the state.

The Governor’s actions have left a lasting impression on the people of Edo. He has restored respect for traditional institutions, dismantled exploitative market union syndicates, tackled cult-related violence, and focused on infrastructure development. These efforts have contributed to a renewed sense of confidence among the people, many of whom are returning home to celebrate the festive season with their families.

Members of both the PDP and APC have praised the Governor’s progress, acknowledging that he has brought a sense of stability and security to the state.

Even partisan individuals, academic scholars, and high business investors in Edo State have expressed satisfaction with the Governor’s performance.

Market traders, in particular, have benefited from the Governor’s efforts to curb market exploitation, resulting in a noticeable drop in staple food prices. The suspension of chairmen and vice chairmen who were caught up in mismanagement has also been widely welcomed.

Governor Okpebholo’s commitment to fairness and justice is evident in his recall of lecturers who were illegally dismissed from Ambrose Alli University (AAU) under Obaseki’s administration.

He has also sworn in judges who were persecuted under the previous administration, demonstrating his dedication to upholding the rule of law and protecting human rights.

The Governor’s proactive approach to governance is also reflected in his presentation of the 2025 budget to the Edo State House of Assembly.

This budget prioritizes sustainable development, education, road infrastructure, healthcare, security, and agriculture, aiming to create long-term prosperity for Edo’s residents.

In conclusion, Governor Okpebholo’s first two months in office have been marked by significant achievements, restoring peace and harmony in Edo State and healing the divisive wounds of the past.

As the saying goes, “A good leader is like a good farmer, he plants seeds of peace and harvests fruits of prosperity.” Governor Okpebholo is indeed planting the seeds of peace and prosperity in Edo State.

Henry Jatto is a member of the APC and sent in this piece Benin City, Edo State.
