DemocratsThey are bitterly opposed to the legislation and have  to hold up the debate. Democrats insisted that the roughly 1,000-page bill be read aloud to the chamber before the debate commenced.
Some Republicans are also opposing the bill, citing concerns about the massive cuts to social welfare programs.
Former Trump advisor Elon Musk criticized the bill, calling it “utterly insane and destructive” for giving handouts to outdated industries while damaging future industries
Independent analysis suggests the bill would lead to a historic redistribution of wealth from the poorest 10% of Americans to the richest.
The bill is unpopular across multiple demographics, age, and income groups, according to recent polling.
The Senate will continue debating the bill, with the aim of passing it before the July 4 deadline.
If passed in the Senate, the bill would go back to the House for approval, where Republicans face stiff opposition from within their own ranks
