The Rivers State Police Command has detained three female inspectors accused of extorting money from motorists in the Rumuokoro area of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
Their arrest followed widespread social media complaints about their actions in the area. The police apprehended them on Tuesday during a coordinated patrol by the Commissioner of Police’s monitoring team.
In a statement released in Port Harcourt, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the arrest and condemned the officers’ conduct as unprofessional. She noted that the officers were not in uniform at the time of the incident and were detained pending disciplinary measures.
The statement revealed that the operation occurred around 3 p.m. under the Rumuokoro Flyover, where Inspectors Sarah Anendei, Caroline Promise, and Christiana Jatau were reportedly involved in corrupt practices targeting motorists. Two of the officers, Inspectors Caroline Promise and Christiana Jatau, were out of uniform during the incident, further violating police protocol. A mobile phone video captured their actions, providing clear evidence of the misconduct.
An immediate on-site investigation led to the recovery of money taken from motorists, demonstrating the Rivers State Police Command’s commitment to ethical standards.
Iringe-Koko assured the public that the detained officers would face appropriate disciplinary actions, reaffirming the Command’s dedication to professional integrity and accountability.
