President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has conferred the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on each member of Nigeria’s Super Falcons in celebration of their recent WAFCON (Women’s Africa Cup of Nations) victory.
In a historic gesture, the President also announced cash rewards of $100,000 (in naira equivalent) for each of the 24 players, and $50,000 for each member of the technical crew.
Beyond the monetary recognition, Tinubu gifted each player a three-bedroom apartment, further solidifying his administration’s commitment to women’s football and national pride.
The President made the announcement during a special reception held in Abuja, praising the Super Falcons for “lifting the spirit of the nation and showcasing the strength of Nigerian women on the global stage.”
