According to Mr. Samuel Oyedeji, the Sector Commander of the Kogi Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the accident involved a commercial Sharon bus and an articulated cement truck. The Sharon bus had pulled over behind a truck at the market, allowing passengers to make purchases. Tragically, at that moment, the cement truck lost control due to brake failure and collided with the stationary bus from behind.

The impact of the collision was catastrophic, causing the Sharon bus to burst into flames almost instantly. The intense fire engulfed the bus, along with two trucks and a motorcycle nearby, resulting in extensive damage and loss of life.

Reports indicate that the Sharon bus was en route to Abuja from the southern region of the country, carrying passengers on their journey. Despite efforts by rescue teams comprising personnel from the FRSC, Red Cross Nigeria, and local law enforcement, the ferocity of the fire made it difficult to save those trapped inside the burning vehicle.

The charred remains of the victims were recovered from the scene, while the two injured individuals were rushed to Fisayo Hospital, Obajana, for urgent medical attention. However, the gravity of the situation was further compounded by the reluctance of local hospitals in Kogi to accept the charred bodies, potentially necessitating a mass burial if no relatives come forward.

Mr. Oyedeji expressed profound sadness and concern over the tragic incident, emphasizing the importance of road safety and vehicle maintenance. He urged motorists to exercise caution, avoid speeding, and regularly inspect their vehicles before embarking on journeys to prevent such devastating accidents.

The aftermath of the auto crash serves as a sobering reminder of the fragility of life and the imperative need for stringent safety measures on the roads. As authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, the community mourns the loss of lives and extends support to the injured individuals and their families during this difficult time.

The tragic auto crash underscores the urgent need for concerted efforts to enhance road safety awareness and enforcement of regulations to prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future. As the community grieves the loss of loved ones, it is incumbent upon all stakeholders to prioritize safety and vigilance on the roads to safeguard lives and prevent further loss.
