Turin Accelerates Urban Renewal as Corso Moncalieri Resurfacing Ends, Major Road Upgrade Begins on Corso Unità d’Italia.
The Italian city of Turin has completed the resurfacing of Corso Moncalieri, marking another milestone in its ambitious urban renewal programme, “Torino Cambia Spazi che uniscono” (“Turin Changes Spaces that Unite”). City authorities have also announced the immediate commencement of a new road rehabilitation project on Corso Unità d’Italia, reinforcing ongoing efforts to modernize public infrastructure and improve mobility across the city.
According to the Municipality of Turin, resurfacing work on Corso Moncalieri is scheduled to conclude on the morning of 3 August, after which construction crews will relocate to Corso Unità d’Italia later the same day. The new phase will begin on the eastern carriageway from the Maroncelli roundabout towards the city centre before progressing to the western carriageway. Temporary lane reductions and traffic management measures will remain in place throughout the construction period, with completion expected by 14 August, subject to weather and operational conditions.
The roadworks form part of the city’s extraordinary public infrastructure maintenance plan, backed by Fondazione CRT through an investment of approximately €32 million. The initiative includes more than 140 construction sites spread across Turin and is designed to enhance road safety, improve driving conditions, and extend the lifespan of key transport corridors. Authorities deliberately scheduled many of the projects during the summer period when traffic volumes are generally lower, helping to reduce disruption for commuters and businesses.
Municipal officials have encouraged motorists to observe temporary traffic signs, plan alternative routes where possible, and remain alert near construction zones. Additional resurfacing projects are also continuing in other parts of the city, including sections of Corso Racconigi, reflecting Turin’s broader commitment to upgrading transport infrastructure while balancing mobility needs and public safety.
