Two employees of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) were rescued in a forest in Bayelsa after being held captive by kidnappers for three days. The victims, Akari Loveday and Emmanuel Nathan Ogbuku, were kidnapped on their way to Ayakoro community in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

The rescue operation was led by Operation Puff Adder, headed by CSP Chris Nwaogbo, with support from the drone team of the state Commissioner of Police, a private drone company, and the Nigerian Navy Ship NNS Soroh. The police and kidnappers engaged in a chase through the creeks and rivers of Ayakoro, Onuebum-Eboi forest, and Otuogidi forests before the victims were abandoned at the Ayama burial ground after a gunfight.
Local youths and vigilante groups from Ewoi and Otuogidi provided invaluable assistance in the rescue mission. The Anti-Kidnapping squad also joined the efforts to locate and rescue the NDDC staff.
Upon their safe return to Ayakoro community, there was a sense of relief and jubilation among the residents.
The success of the rescue operation highlighted the collaborative efforts of security forces and local communities in combating kidnapping in the region.
The incident serves as a reminder of the persistent threat of kidnapping in the Niger Delta region and underscores the importance of proactive measures to safeguard the lives and property of residents. The swift response and coordinated action by security agencies and community members in this case demonstrate the potential for effective counter-terrorism efforts when all stakeholders work together.
