UK Court Jails Nigerian Student for Online Child Grooming Attempt, Orders Deportation After Prison Term.

A court in the United Kingdom has sentenced a 25 year old Nigerian student, Anderson Ishiekwene, to three years in prison after he admitted attempting to meet what he believed was a 14 year old girl for sexual activity following a period of online grooming.

The conviction followed an undercover operation conducted by members of a paedophile hunter group, who posed online as a teenage girl before arranging a meeting with Ishiekwene. Prosecutors told the court that the defendant engaged in sexually explicit conversations and made plans to meet the purported minor for sexual purposes, actions that ultimately led to his arrest by police.

During court proceedings, the judge described the offence as serious, emphasizing the significant risk posed to children through online exploitation. The court heard that although no actual child was involved, Ishiekwene believed he was communicating with a 14 year old and took deliberate steps to arrange an in-person meeting. His guilty plea was taken into account during sentencing.

In addition to the three-year custodial sentence, the court ruled that Ishiekwene will be subject to automatic deportation from the United Kingdom upon completion of his prison term, in accordance with UK immigration laws governing foreign nationals convicted of serious criminal offences. He will also be placed on the Sex Offenders Register and remain subject to strict legal restrictions after his release.

The case highlights the growing role of undercover online investigations in combating child sexual exploitation, as well as the increasing collaboration between law enforcement agencies and volunteer paedophile hunter groups in identifying suspected offenders.
