Jamaica midfielder Courtney Clarke says the Reggae Boyz are ready to end Nigeria’s Unity Cup dominance when both sides meet in Saturday’s final in London.
Clarke spoke after Jamaica beat India 2-0 on Wednesday at The Valley to book a third straight final against the Super Eagles. Nigeria reached the final Tuesday with a 2-0 win over Zimbabwe, thanks to a brace from debutant Femi Azeez. The Millwall winger scored inside 5 minutes and added another in the second half as Éric Chelle’s side controlled possession from start to finish
The final marks the third consecutive Unity Cup title match between Nigeria and Jamaica. The Super Eagles enter as defending champions and favorites after their commanding semi-final display. Chelle also used the game to hand opportunities to several new and fringe players, boosting confidence in the squad
Clarke acknowledged the challenge of facing the three-time African champions but said Jamaica’s plan is simple. “We just have to do what we do, keep our energy, stick to the plan, and let football do the rest. Just keep working and try to beat Nigeria,” he said.
