The Edo State Government has urged residents to support the government in reducing community transmission of coronavirus (COVID-19) by ensuring compliance with the state’s preventive protocols to check the spread of the second wave of the pandemic Obaland Magazine learned.

The State COVID-19 Incident Manager, Dr. Andrew Obi gave the charge while speaking to journalists in Benin City, the state capital.

The Incident Manager blamed the steady rise in the number of confirmed cases in the state on poor compliance with the government’s guidelines to contain the infectious disease.

Obi while reassuring the government’s commitment to curbing the spread of the virus, urged citizens with COVID-19 symptoms to contact the Edo Emergency Operation Centre on this toll-free number: 08003625000 for assistance.

The Incident Manager noted, “We appeal to all residents in the state to complement the state government’s efforts at curbing community spread of the virus by complying with government’s guidelines against the spread of the second wave of COVID-19.

“It is quite discouraging that while the government steps up measures to protect residents against this deadly virus, some recalcitrant members of the society have disregarded these orders, thereby endangering the lives of others.

“We call on all residents to adhere to the compulsory use of facemasks and other precautionary measures against the spread of coronavirus as the government alone cannot win this battle.”

“Wash your hand regularly under running water, use alcohol-based hand sanitizers, and observe social distancing,” he added.
