The Director of Development Control, Muktar Galadima, stated that the illegal structures were obstructing the arterial road N16, which runs from the Federal Secretariat through Maitama, Katampe, Jahi, and Gwarinpa.

The Engineering Department of the FCTA is ready to commence construction on the road once the demolition is completed. The Secretary of the FCT Command and Control Centre, Peter Olumuji, also emphasized that the demolished shanties were known for harboring criminals and that the demolition would enhance security in Gwarimpa and its surroundings.
