Former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido has vowed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will seek to reclaim political power in the state in the 2027 general elections, accusing the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of failing to deliver adequate development in critical sectors.
Lamido made the declaration during the inauguration of the PDP Campaign Council at the party’s state headquarters in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital, where he urged party members to mobilise support around governance, public welfare and accountability.
The former governor alleged that Jigawa had experienced setbacks under the APC-led administration, particularly in healthcare and education. He expressed concern over the availability of medical services in hospitals and the condition of the education sector, arguing that residents needed a government more responsive to their everyday challenges.
Lamido said the PDP was prepared to offer an alternative focused on transparent leadership, accountability, development and peaceful coexistence. He maintained that the party had experienced personnel capable of addressing the state’s challenges and rebuilding public confidence in government.
The former governor also pledged that the PDP would conduct its campaigns peacefully, without intimidation, insults or personal attacks, stressing that political competition should be guided by mutual respect and the interests of residents.
His remarks form part of the opposition party’s efforts to strengthen its position ahead of the 2027 elections, as political parties begin to intensify mobilisation and make their cases to voters.
However, Lamido’s allegations remain political claims that should be assessed alongside verifiable evidence of the state government’s performance. Voters will ultimately have to weigh the records of the competing parties, their policy proposals and their capacity to improve public services.
As the election approaches, healthcare, education, accountability and economic welfare are likely to remain important issues for Jigawa residents. Whether the PDP can translate its criticism of the APC into a convincing programme for governance will be a key test of its campaign.
Sule Lamido accuses the APC of governance failures in Jigawa and vows that the PDP will pursue improved healthcare, education and accountability ahead of the 2027 elections.
