  • The Edo State Government has debunked claims by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) alleging that Governor Monday Okpebholo approved N6 billion as compensation to so-called “Fulani terrorists” following the recent Uromi killings. In a strongly-worded statement on Thursday, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Fred Itua, described the accusation as a reckless falsehood designed to incite ethnic conflict and destabilise the peace of Edo State. The controversy stems from the events of 28 March, when sixteen hunters from Kano State were killed in the Udune Efandion community of Uromi. In the aftermath, Governor Okpebholo visited Kano to sympathise with the families of the victims and appeal for calm, while a delegation from Kano later travelled to Edo to engage in peace discussions. IPOB, in a statement released on 21 April, alleged that the Governor had secretly approved a N6 billion compensation package to appease the bereaved families a claim which the Edo State Government swiftly dismissed as baseless and inflammatory. “There is no truth whatsoever in the claim that Governor Monday Okpebholo approved or paid N6 billion to any group,” Itua said. “This is a fictitious and malicious lie concocted by IPOB to sow seeds of discord and destabilise the harmony we have nurtured in Edo State.” The government warned that IPOB’s repeated attempts to manipulate public sentiment and incite ethnic hostility under the cover of activism would not succeed in Edo State. “It has become a known tactic of this proscribed group to exploit tragic situations to spread hate and misinformation,” the statement added. “Their agenda of violence and ethnic disintegration has no place here.” Emphasising its commitment to unity, security and justice for all residents, the Edo State Government reaffirmed its stance against any form of ethnic or religious discrimination. The statement also urged security agencies to investigate the source of the inciting publication and prosecute those behind it, stressing that public order and peace must not be jeopardised by dangerous propaganda. “We remain resolute in our commitment to justice, peace and the protection of all Edo people, regardless of background,” the government declared. “We will continue to uphold the values of unity, tolerance and truth in the face of reckless attempts to destabilise our state.”

Ondo Businessman Dies After Recording Emotional Video, Police Recover Suspected Poison Bottles.

What could have driven a successful businessman, who had built his business from nothing, to make a final decision that would leave his family and associates searching for answers?

That is the question surrounding the death of a prominent Ondo State businessman, Kayode Akinbolusere, popularly known as Tolufe, who reportedly died after taking a poisonous substance inside his office.

Before his death, the 46 year old businessman had recorded a video in which he spoke about his personal struggles, reflected on his journey to success and announced plans to leave all his properties to his wife and three children living in Canada.

In the emotional recording, Kayode made it clear that nobody had pressured him into preparing the will. He also took time to acknowledge the sacrifices his wife, Akinbolusere Esther, had made during the difficult years when he was struggling to establish himself.

According to him, his wife had remained supportive even when he had very little, particularly during his earlier days working as a barber. He described her as someone who stood by him without making life more difficult, despite the challenges they faced.

Kayode also recalled how he started his business from scratch, insisting that he had always conducted his affairs transparently.

However, he spoke about a series of frustrating developments at work. He explained that after arriving at his workplace, two machines he depended on for his business developed faults.

The unexpected breakdown reportedly left him wondering why things were happening that way, especially considering how much effort he had invested in building the business.

In the same video, he announced that his properties would go to his wife and their three children, adding that he was making the decision voluntarily and in recognition of the support he had received from his family.

Sadly, the recording would later become one of the major pieces of information surrounding his death.

Kayode reportedly died on Thursday, October 29, 2026, inside his office in the Igba area of Ondo State.

Following reports of the incident, the Ondo State Police Command confirmed that an investigation had commenced to establish exactly what happened.

In a statement released on Friday through the command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the police identified the deceased as a resident of Road 7, Housing Estate, Igba.

According to the police, the incident occurred at his office beside BOVAS Petrol Station in Igba Town at approximately 3 p.m.

Officers attached to the Bolorunduro Police Division were dispatched to the location after members of the public alerted authorities about his death.

During their examination of the scene, investigators recovered two empty bottles suspected to have contained Sniper insecticide from a nearby bush.

The police also confirmed that a video recorded by the businessman before his death had circulated on social media. In the recording, he reportedly spoke about his personal struggles and the difficulties he had encountered in life.

His remains were subsequently taken to the State Hospital Morgue, where they were deposited for preservation and further examination.

The command added that no visible signs of violence were discovered on his body during the initial examination.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, CP Felix Ohagwu, has directed that a thorough investigation be conducted to determine the circumstances surrounding the businessman’s death.

The police have also appealed to members of the public to avoid drawing conclusions or spreading unverified information while investigators work to establish what happened.

The command further encouraged people facing emotional distress, marital difficulties or other personal challenges to seek assistance and support rather than take actions that could put their lives at risk.

For now, questions remain about the events that preceded Kayode Akinbolusere’s death, while the police investigation is expected to provide further clarity.
