Senate President Godswill Akpabio has urged Nigerians to actively support efforts to combat terrorism, kidnapping, and other violent crimes, saying security requires collective vigilance and cooperation.
Speaking on Sunday in Abuja during an inter-denominational church service at the National Christian Centre to mark the 27th Democracy Day, Akpabio said the abduction of innocent citizens, especially children, remains a major concern. He called on citizens to remain alert, cooperate with security agencies, and back initiatives aimed at improving safety nationwide.
While reaffirming government’s commitment to addressing insecurity, Akpabio stressed that citizens also have a role in strengthening community security and supporting lawful efforts against criminal activity.
Speaking on the theme “Democracy, Faith and the Soul of a Nation,” he said democracy must go beyond elections and be rooted in accountability, justice, compassion, and service to the public good. He described leadership as a public trust and governance as a responsibility to improve citizens’ lives.
Akpabio encouraged Nigerians to stay hopeful despite current challenges, expressing confidence in the country’s democratic future. He urged young people to engage in democratic processes and contribute to nation-building through innovation, civic participation, and constructive public involvement
He also called for national unity, saying Nigeria’s diversity should be seen as a strength for progress and stability. Akpabio offered prayers for President Bola Tinubu, public institutions, security agencies, and citizens, expressing hope for continued peace, development, and democratic growth.
