Arise News Bars Anthony Kila Over Allegations of Falsified Academic Credentials.
ARISE News has announced that political analyst Anthony Kila will no longer appear on its television channel or other platforms following allegations concerning his academic qualifications raised in an investigation by PREMIUM TIMES.
The network announced the decision on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, in a statement issued by its Editorial Board, titled “Investigation: Anthony Kila’s ‘Degrees’.”
According to ARISE News, it contacted Kila on October 3 to seek clarification on the allegations and presented him with the findings of the investigation. The network said he requested additional time to respond but had not provided a response 10 days later.
The statement added that the allegations had become more serious, making his continued appearances on the network untenable.
ARISE News said it was unaware of the allegations when Kila appeared on its programmes as a freelance political analyst. It added that the decision to exclude him from its platforms was effective immediately and would remain in force.
The development follows investigations by PREMIUM TIMES published on October 3 and October 10, which questioned Kila’s claimed academic qualifications, including his use of the title of professor.
The initial investigation reported that it found no evidence that a recognized academic institution had awarded Kila the professorial title he had publicly used. It also raised questions about his claimed affiliation with the European Centre for Advanced and Professional Studies and his academic profiles associated with Michael and Cecilia Ibru University and the Commonwealth Institute of Advanced and Professional Studies.
A follow up report published on October 10 examined discrepancies in his claimed academic qualifications, including his bachelor’s degree, master’s degree and doctorate.
Kila had previously maintained that he was a legitimate professor. In a response reported by PREMIUM TIMES, he said the publication was based on what he described as an incomplete understanding of the nature and institutional basis of his professorship. He also said he had instructed his lawyers to review the reports and advise him on steps to protect his reputation.
Beyond the decision by ARISE News, Michael and Cecilia Ibru University in Delta State, where Kila served as pro-chancellor from August 2025, reportedly asked him to step aside pending an investigation into his professorial status.
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has also constituted a team to investigate the allegations, including whether the university benefited from any alleged misrepresentation.
ARISE News said it takes issues of credibility and integrity seriously and would no longer feature Kila on its platforms.
The allegations remain subject to further clarification and investigation.
