As Tunji Disu assumes office as Acting Inspector General of Police, the fate of DIG Frank Mba hangs in the balance. I recall writing about Disu in 2021, highlighting his quiet efficiency and preventive approach to crime-fighting. He is a scholar-practitioner, balancing operational command with academic pursuits.
Disu’s rise is a testament to the fact that one doesn’t need to be a “Super Cop” on social media to become the “First Cop” of the nation. His vision for a safer Nigeria is anchored on discipline, human rights compliance, and anti-corruption measures.
Mba, on the other hand, is a seasoned officer with a formidable academic profile and a legacy as Nigeria’s most effective communicator in uniform. His experience and expertise would be a valuable asset to the Force.
The question remains: will Mba continue to serve under Disu or seek a new horizon? Institutional maturity demands that when the ovation is modest, one exits with dignity. Disu has the vision; he now needs the support of his peers to translate it into a safer Nigeria.
The author, Yusha’u Shuaib, reflects on his professional relationship with Mba and his encounters with Disu, highlighting their strengths and the importance of unity in leadership.
