Osborn Nweze Umahi, di 28 year old pikin of Nigeria Works Minister and former Ebonyi State governor, David Umahi, don officially enter grassroots politics after dem swear am in as di new Chairman of Ohaozara Local Government Area for Ebonyi State.

Di swearing in ceremony happen Tuesday, September 1, 2026, after Osborn win di August 22 local government election under di platform of All Progressives Congress, APC. Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru na di person wey administer di oath, while senior government officials, political leaders and Osborn papa, David Umahi, dey among di people wey witness di ceremony.

Osborn win for one election wey APC dominate for di state, with di party taking all 13 chairmanship positions for Ebonyi State. Di victory mean say Osborn, wey na engineer and businessman, don officially begin him journey inside elective public service at local government level.

During di campaign, Osborn talk say him go put serious attention for road and infrastructure development, youth empowerment, support for small businesses and improvement of basic services for people of Ohaozara. E also promise say e no go collect him official salary and allowances throughout him tenure, explaining say him main reason for entering public office na to serve di people.

Before entering politics, Osborn study Civil Engineering for University of Surrey, England. Later, e obtain master’s degree for Finance and Investment Management from University of Aberdeen, Scotland. E subsequently work for different business interests, including construction and energy.

His father, David Umahi, serve as Ebonyi State governor from 2015 to 2023 before President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appoint am as Minister of Works. Osborn’s emergence as local government chairman don also put fresh attention on political participation by young Nigerians, especially for grassroots governance.
