In a significant victory againstna, a notorious drug trafficker, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison by a Federal High Court in Lagos. This comes after Ogbonna was arrested and prosecuted by the agency for his involvement in drug smuggling activities.
According to Femi Babafemi, the Director of Media and Advocacy for the NDLEA, Og a Liberian passport under the name Carr Bismark, but his true identity was Freeman Charles Ogbonna been promised if he successfully completed the smuggling task. However, his actions resulted in his arrest, prosecution, and now a 25-year prison sentence without the option of a fine.
The sentencing took place before Justice Dipeolu Deinde Isaac at the Federal High Court in Lagos. This judgment serves as a stern warning to other would-be drug traffickers, highlighting the severe consequences they may face if caught.
It is worth noting that is not the first time the Federal High Court in Lagos has handed down such a sentence. In March 2024, Mrs. Odeyemi Omolara was also sentenced to 15 years in prison for a similar drug trafficking offense. These convictions demonstrate the commitment of the Nigerian justice system and law enforcement agencies in combating drug trafficking and ensuring the safety and well-being of the nation.
